Jaayenge hum to Bollywood

Bollywood - a world in its own.. I love hindi movies. Every movie i have seen has been a sheer joy/ pleasure. Of course, i have my favorite actors and movies. I like to think of myself as a discerning movie goer - one who can watch/ catch the intricacies behind a scene; director's point of view, actor's point of view - blah blah blah.. The movies reach out to a real wide audience. I remember this one time i was on vacation in Orissa, INDIA with my family and one of the waiters at the hotel on knowing that we were from Mumbai, assumed that we see/ run into movie stars everyday. The number of movies generated by this industry per year runs into hundreds.
One of my pet peeves with the film industry has been the kind of movies on offer. We probably have covered all sorts of movies with family dramas, action, comedy (including ha-ha funny types), romance, suspense, cheesy B-grade sex et al. However the genre of sports based movies and politics has missed out.
Of late, Chak De INDIA has been an epitome of a good sports oriented movie, executed with elan. Hollywood has their success stories with movies like Remember the Titans, Coach Carter, Jerry Maguire , Million Dollar Baby, ROCKY and counting. Besides Chak De.., Awwal Number, Lagaan and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar come to my mind. A.N. was a disaster, but the rest apart from the $$$ went on to make history, hell - Lagaan even qualified for the OSCARS. Bend it like Beckham - a cross over movie also did really well. Some of these movies did not deal "only" with sports, Lagaan dealt with freedom, JJWS with the coming of age. These movies were inspiring, fast paced and downright entertaining.

I wish we can have more sport in movies than the other way round (IPL anyone!).

Another thing i would love to see in the movies is politics and politicians in a positive light. I was very impressed with YUVA and it was wonderful to see a young and dynamic leader. Rang De Basanti was another refreshing movie. Politicians in hindi movies are confined to age bias (45 +), wearing white clothes, chewing paan and most important of all - CORRUPT! I think it is about time we depict the leaders, politicians as positive role models. For once, i want to see a young politician hero kick some a@#.

Here's to the BIGGEST movie industry in the world.
